The internationally renowned Say Yes program is built
on the dog and handler having a strong working relationship, and focuses
on relationship development taught through games, a thorough training
plan and high rates of reinforcement as behaviours are being trained.
Join Lynda at Spot On for a weekend of cutting-edge training rolled into
a whole lot of fun.
Five great workshops in one big weekend:
Relationship Foundations for Puppies and Young’uns
Friday, September 3
1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Head start your puppy partner on the right track.
Learn (and teach) the foundation skills taught at Say Yes to create a
super star! For puppies 12 weeks to about a year old
FULL Building (and Maintaining!) the Connection
Saturday, September 4 8:30 am -- 12:30
pm
Suitable for young dogs, dogs just
starting agility or advanced dogs who disconnect on occasion and need a
refresher on all of the many foundation skills that make for great
performance, this workshop will focus on tightening the connection to
enhance teamwork. Lay the foundation to perform as a team in harmony
around any agility course, then proof that understanding through a
variety of challenges. Learn to be your dog's only distraction!
Far, Far Away
Saturday, September 4 1:30 pm -- 5:30 pm
Suitable for dogs
competing at the Advanced/Masters level, this session will focus on
honing distance skills for accurate, independent performance of any
sequence. Exercises will test your dog's understanding and make it
better, and will help you to develop handling skills that will ensure
clear and consistent communication. Whether you're aiming to improve
gamble skills or make the most efficient way around a course, building
on distance skills will add great tools to your repertoire. Competing
Starters dogs may be considered if space allows.
One Jump (and More!)
Sunday, September 5 8:30 am -- 12:30 pm
Introduce your grade
schooler to jump exercises for future handling success!
Included
will be one jump exercises as well as a few favorite young dog grids.
This workshop will leave you with a repertoire of amazing exercises on
which to further build your handling foundation with minimal equipment,
regardless of the size of your practice space.
Closing the Gap Between Training and Trialling
Sunday, September 5 1:30
am -- 5:30 pm
Part training workshop, part handling seminar and
part mental management tutorial, this unique session is for anyone who
has ever said "but he's perfect in training" or "how do I practice THAT
when he doesn't do it at home?" or who knows that what they're doing in
the quiet of the backyard doesn't translate well to the trial ring. It's
all about consistency in setting and maintaining criteria, establishing
clear cues and expectations, and ensuring that your dog understands that
what matters is who he's with and not where he happens to be running
that day. Do you lose the connection when sequences become full courses?
Do distractions throw a wrench in your confidence, or your dog's? Do
your well-defined criteria fly out the window when there's a Q or
placement on the line? It’s about us -- not the dog’s skills,
understanding or competency on equipment...it’s about being clear in
your communication, your confidence, your positions and your
understanding. Build on all of them, and you'll build a better team.
Suitable for Advanced/Masters teams. Competing Starters dogs may be
considered if space allows.

About Lynda
Lynda’s solid
foundation of training and handling has been developed through extensive
work with Susan Garrett, Greg Derrett, Susan Salo, and Bob Bailey; to
that team Lynda has recently added performance enhancement coach John
Cullen. In the midst of preparations to head off to Germany in October
to represent Canada at the FCI World Agility Championships, Lynda is
eager to share with and learn from students at all levels of experience.
Lynda
instructs at Susan Garrett’s world-renowned Say Yes Dog Training
facility in Alberton, Ontario. Her understanding of the current Say Yes
methodology makes her a pivotal teacher at all levels of training, from
puppy skills all the way up to the larger summer camps. Lynda has
represented Say Yes throughout North America and as far away as Hawaii
and Australia, presenting seminars on training to extraordinary levels
of performance without physical or verbal corrections. She is also a
regular contributor to DogSport magazine, where her series,
“Raising Favor,” documented the foundation training of her young sheltie
puppy.
That puppy is now an
exciting
performer in her own right, finishing 6th overall at the 2008 Ontario
Regionals and then placing 1st in Round 1 and 2 of the Steeplechase
Finals at the 2008 Canadian Nationals. Just this month, Favor won not
only the two qualifying rounds but also the exciting final round of the
Sashas Blend Steeplechase Championship at the 2009 AAC Nationals. Visit

sync.
Lynda and her
speedy Golden Retriever, “Spirit,” consistently place at or near the top
of their classes in AAC, CKC, and USDAA agility competitions. Their
successes have included qualifying for AAC Canadian Nationals and USDAA
Nationals since 2005. On the world agility stage, Lynda & Spirit were
named to and competed for the CKC World team in 2007 and again in 2008.
They had double the excitement in 2008, when the duo was also named as
the 26” alternate for the AAC IFCS team competing in Belgium.
Competitively,
at the 2007 World Championships in Hamar, Norway, Lynda and Spirit
finished 41st out of 118 large dogs in the overall standings for
individual jumping and standard. In September 2008 the duo competed in
Helsinki, Finland, where Spirit was chosen to represent Canada on the
Large dog team, along with Susan Garrett & Encore and Tiffany Salmon &
Rio; the 3-dog team finished 8th overall – the highest placement for a
Large dog team in Canadian CKC Team history!
Lynda’s
enthusiasm for teaching, her great understanding of dog training, and
her genuine, patient nature with students ensures that any and all of
these seminars will be time very well spent!
